At The Cathedral School art is a natural form of expression which includes content and skill development. Art facilitates creative thinking and problem solving. It involves imagination, originality, experimentation, and self-expression. Art emphasizes sensory experiences through creativity. It includes knowledge of processes and techniques and develops an aesthetic awareness of major art movements and art masters.
The students of The Cathedral School participate in 4 competitions during the school year:
The Statewide Competition and Exhibition is organized by The Arkansas Arts Center and the Arkansas Department of Education. From this exhibition a number of works are chosen for the statewide Young Arkansas Artists Traveling Exhibition.
The Central Region Art Competition is sponsored by the Central Arkansas Art Educators and the Arkansas Art Educators. Winning art is exhibited at designated areas with first place winners moving on to a state exhibition.
The Cathedral School Competition
and judging is held in April each year. First place works are framed
and on exhibition for the entire year following the competition.
The Cathedral School Summer Show
enhances areas of the church where visitors and parish members can
enjoy creativity while the children are on summer vacation. Approximately
35 two-dimensional works of art are chosen each spring for The Cathedral
School Summer Show.
