At The Cathedral School art is a natural form of expression which includes content and skill development. Art facilitates creative thinking and problem solving. It involves imagination, originality, experimentation, and self-expression.

Music is an important aspect of The Cathedral School. It provides an artistic outlet for all students and an opportunity to learn and display musical talents. Basic elements of this discipline, theory and practical application, are offered to all students K through 5.

All students at The Cathedral School are given the opportunity to
define, practice, and apply creative and critical thinking during
enrichment classes. The groups focus on the development and evaluation
of ideas. They develop products, assess their learning, and think
about the steps in the creative process during their activities.
They learn the terminology of thinking. They develop different ways
of approaching a problem or assignment. They learn to make judgments,
evaluate using their own criteria, and reflect upon those decisions.
The children are introduced to thinking styles, learning modalities,
and personality types. They apply their strengths and prize the
differences in individuals.
The fourth grade has several projects spread throughout the year.
Students research and present a family story explaining how members
of their family lived and worked in the past. Each student brings
an item that represents the person and the time in which they lived,
then, shares it with the group. Expert Expo allows the children
to explore a subject of their own choosing. They research the topic,
make a product, and then teach their classmates and parents using
their expertise.
The fifth graders participate in a year long study of the brain.
Topics included in their "Brain Owner's Manual" are brain
physiology and the functions of the structures of the brain, healthy
brain activity, nutrition, stress, memory, and brain research.

Technology is ever changing and at The Cathedral School, we strive
to give students the technological skills they will need to be productive
citizens. Computer classes are offered to all students, pre-kindergarten
- fifth grade. Students learn how to use common software and hardware,
responsible internet use, and begin to develop keyboarding skills.
Technology curriculum includes the use of word processing programs,
graphics software, creating and designing web pages, created and
using spreadsheets, databases, and PowerPoint presentations. Students
also learn how to use the internet as an educational resource. We
have a varied selection of software that allows the students to
develop reading, writing, math, and problem solving skills.
Open communication between classroom teachers and specials teachers
allows for units of study and skills to be reinforced through technology.
Software and projects are used to enhance the curriculum.
Technology is an integral part of the curriculum at The Cathedral
School and teachers incorporate technology into their classroom
curriculum to enhance and reinforce skills.

The Cathedral School's physical education program strives to develop
the physical capabilities of all children. Cathedral students are
introduced to a variety of activities including individual and team
concepts.
The goal of the physical education department is to develop and
nurture healthy lifestyle choices. Beginning each morning, students
may participate in the Get Up/Get Fit program. This program
consists of moderate running and various physical games. Several
staff members join the students in the morning to add to their own
exercise routine.
During recess, students may participate in the Mile Club: Running/walking/jogging
around the playground. Each student then records his/her mileage.
When students meet a certain mileage goal, rewards are given. This
mileage can also count towards participation in the Little Rock
Marathon.
In May of each year, all Cathedral students participate in Field
Day. Each student participates in several events. Field Day activities
are patterned after track and field events: 50 yard dash, hurdles
and javelin throw are a few examples.
As a part of the P.E. curriculum, students in grades 3-5 participate
in The President's Physical Fitness Test. Cathedral students begin
training in mid-January and the test is given in March. Sixty-five
percent or more of students score at or above the 50th percentile,
the National Award, and several students from each grade level score
at or above the 85th percentile, the Presidential Award, each year.
Kindergarten-2nd grades use a modified training schedule, but do
not participate in the scored test.
The Cathedral School takes pride in our efforts to provide a healthy
environment for all students.
