The sports program of The Cathedral School is designed to
contribute to the development of faith, character and academic
achievement of all of its student participants. The program
strives to develop a student's physical skills and abilities
and will focuses on sportsmanship, teamwork, positive self
esteem, leadership, cooperation, citizenship, loyalty, character
and personal responsibility. The program is designed to work
with students, parents, teachers, administrators and the church
for the goal of aiding in a student's physical, spiritual,
moral, and social development.
The following sports are offered for
students:
- Three 2-week sport camps for kindergarten-2nd
grade students in soccer, softball and baseball.
- PIP (players in progress), kindergarten-2nd
grade, basketball handling
- Boys and girls basketball, 3rd-5th
grade
- 5th grade girls volleyball
Coach Simmons, a Class D certfied
soccer coach, will offer a soccer skills class for kindergarten
through second grade. This is a class which seeks to develop
tactical and technical skills in young players. It will
focus on the fundamentals components of soccer. Students
will take home an official ball at the end of class. The
class meets on Thursday afternoons 3:45-5:00 p.m. Start
date: September 6, 2007. End date: October 25, 2007.
The basketball program for grades
3-5 is in compliance with the Private School League regulations.
The goal of The Cathedral School Basketball Program is to
teach the rules and fundamentals of the game, teamwork,
Christian attitudes, representation of an organization and
sportsmanship. Respect for teammates as well as opponents,
officials, and coaches are a must.
The Cathedral School is proud to
offer a four week intramural volleyball program for fifth
grade girls. The goal of the program is to offer an introduction
to the rules and strategies of the game as well as stress
the importance of teamwork.
